living in a closet

wednesday night, parker woke up at 11:30pm
and cried non-stop until 3:30am.
the last time i remember a night like that was back in october.
you forget how hard it is to be awake with a crying child,
in the middle of the night,
when you havent had to do it in months.
he was running a fever,
but i thought maybe he was just cutting another tooth.

thursday, jared got home from work and was playing with parker
when he came into the kitchen and asked me if i had noticed
all the bumps on his hands.
which i hadnt, and quickly saw lots of red/white bumps.
later that night i noticed them on his feet also.
weird. right?

today, friday, we went to play group
and i asked my fellow mama friends to look at parkers hands
and feet. once my friend rachel looked at them she asked,
"does he have hand, foot, and mouth disease?"
to which i replied, "what's that?"
apparently its a very contagious disease among children.
i quickly called the pediatrician, set up an appointment,
and high-tailed it outta the play group setting,
half embarrassed i had just brought my highly contagious child to play group
and half terrified i was about to give every child there the disease
if i stayed another second.

maybe ive been living in a closet my whole life,
because today was the first i have ever heard of it.
and apparently its a summer virus that is most common in children 5 and under.
and apparently its going around right now,
because parker wasnt the first one in that office this week to go in with it.
the doctor told me he could have picked it up anywhere really.
which kinda grosses me out.
now i dont want him to touch anything out in public, ever.
he also told me there is no medicine for it,
it just has to run it's course, but since parker hasnt had a fever
for over 24 hours, he is probably over the worst of it.
phew.

we did babysit hayden this morning, so i texted his mom
to let her know he might come down with it.
-and just as a side note-
we are done babysitting him!
though im glad i was able to help someone in need,
im happy to be done, and VERY happy that the only
poopy diapers i have to change now are parker's :)

-and as another side note-
last week, we took parker to this place here in rexburg
called the craze.
they have a little kids play area,
that is FREE for kids 3 and under.
we were the only ones there and had a lot of fun.
it took parker to a little time to warm up to everything,
like it always does, but he eventually had a blast.
i wish we had known about this place all winter.

its crazy to think another week has passed,
and we are down to 4 weeks left here.
we've got some busy weeks ahead of us
filled with family, packing, and cleaning.
im starting to stress about the move.
i just want to snap my fingers and be in our
already unpacked apartment in moscow.
the unknown is always so nerve-wrecking!

happy 4th!

happy 4th of july!
i cant believe this was my 6th 4th of july here in idaho.
thats crazy, people!
we had a great holiday with lots of sun, food, and fun!
we started the holiday off the night before by going to the splash park
across the street.
after playing in the water, we ventured over to the playground
where parker BIT THROUGH his lip.
there was lots of blood, and lots of tears,
but i think he's gonna recover from it.

the morning of the 4th, jared had to go to work,
so parker and i headed to the rexburg parade
with kyle and carissa and reggie and janae.
(a HUGE thank-you to them for keeping parker entertained ALL DAY!)
parker was mesmerized by all the firetrucks, ambulances, semi's,
horns, music, dancing, horses, motorcycles.
he loved it.
after the parade, we had a yummy lunch of BBQ chicken sandwiches,
BBQ ribs, pasta salad, chocolate covered strawberries and pretzels, and jello.
then i took parker home for a much needed nap.

after he woke up, we decided it was very hot, and needed to go swimming!
he loved having aunt carissa blow bubbles,
and she was soaked by the end of it.
(and probably a little light headed, too.)

jared finally got off work and came to play the rest of the night.
we decided we really didnt want to deal with the idaho falls traffic
after the fireworks down there, so we went to the duck pond
to watch the rexburg fireworks.

we played with those popper/snapper things, and sparklers
which parker thought was pretty neat.

as far as the rexburg fireworks go,
they were so lame. so, so, so lame.
but it was cute to watch parker clap after each one.

after the 5 minute rexburg show, we watched reggie light off some he got.
some of those whistling ones were pretty loud.

when we got home, our neighbors were out shooting some off as well
so we watched a few more. and then it was bed time.
parker was exhausted after a very fun filled day.
id say it was a pretty successful holiday.

today, its much cooler outside. cloudy and rainy.
we have all our windows open, and there's a nice breeze
blowing through cooling off our apartment.
parker and i spent the morning back at the duck pond.
we love throwing rocks into the water, and watching the ducks.
it's crazy to think we only have 5 weeks left here.
rexburg, has been my home for the last 6 years.
(that's the longest i have ever lived in one place.)
im sure gonna miss it.
