living in a closet

wednesday night, parker woke up at 11:30pm
and cried non-stop until 3:30am.
the last time i remember a night like that was back in october.
you forget how hard it is to be awake with a crying child,
in the middle of the night,
when you havent had to do it in months.
he was running a fever,
but i thought maybe he was just cutting another tooth.

thursday, jared got home from work and was playing with parker
when he came into the kitchen and asked me if i had noticed
all the bumps on his hands.
which i hadnt, and quickly saw lots of red/white bumps.
later that night i noticed them on his feet also.
weird. right?

today, friday, we went to play group
and i asked my fellow mama friends to look at parkers hands
and feet. once my friend rachel looked at them she asked,
"does he have hand, foot, and mouth disease?"
to which i replied, "what's that?"
apparently its a very contagious disease among children.
i quickly called the pediatrician, set up an appointment,
and high-tailed it outta the play group setting,
half embarrassed i had just brought my highly contagious child to play group
and half terrified i was about to give every child there the disease
if i stayed another second.

maybe ive been living in a closet my whole life,
because today was the first i have ever heard of it.
and apparently its a summer virus that is most common in children 5 and under.
and apparently its going around right now,
because parker wasnt the first one in that office this week to go in with it.
the doctor told me he could have picked it up anywhere really.
which kinda grosses me out.
now i dont want him to touch anything out in public, ever.
he also told me there is no medicine for it,
it just has to run it's course, but since parker hasnt had a fever
for over 24 hours, he is probably over the worst of it.
phew.

we did babysit hayden this morning, so i texted his mom
to let her know he might come down with it.
-and just as a side note-
we are done babysitting him!
though im glad i was able to help someone in need,
im happy to be done, and VERY happy that the only
poopy diapers i have to change now are parker's :)

-and as another side note-
last week, we took parker to this place here in rexburg
called the craze.
they have a little kids play area,
that is FREE for kids 3 and under.
we were the only ones there and had a lot of fun.
it took parker to a little time to warm up to everything,
like it always does, but he eventually had a blast.
i wish we had known about this place all winter.

its crazy to think another week has passed,
and we are down to 4 weeks left here.
we've got some busy weeks ahead of us
filled with family, packing, and cleaning.
im starting to stress about the move.
i just want to snap my fingers and be in our
already unpacked apartment in moscow.
the unknown is always so nerve-wrecking!

We'll have to visit the Craze especially this winter. :) Thanks for sharing. I've briefly heard of the disease. I hope Ava doesn't come down with it.

Oh man, hand foot mouth disease has been going around like CRAZY by us. Luckily none of my kids have caught it.....but we've caught everything else. I did the same thing I took Alice to play with kids and found out she had IMPETIGO! Ahhh, I got out of there and had to pick up an antibotic. Anyway, I hope he's feeling better and that y'all are doing well.
